Props and Costumes
I originally wanted more props than I managed to get a hold of, but in the end I don’t think that a problem, it kept the image clean, but it obstructed my plan of creating a single tableaux. When it comes to props I wanted to get a birds cage to represent how Nora was trapped in their relationship, I looked online and in different stores in town, but I was unsuccessful. The ones I found online were way too expensive, and I couldn’t find any in town. I was looking at wedding table decorations instead of actual bird cages, but that was still too expensive. I thought about including some christmas related props, but decided against it seeing that it’s not really that relevant to the story.
For Nora’s costume I wanted to get a white childish dress, this I found in Dorothy Perkins for £9, buying this was alright because my model could keep the dress afterwards. I also wanted to get white stockings, which is something I genuinely struggled to find. I went back and forth between all the shops in town and ended up buying cream coloured knee high socks and some black stockings, so I had the option to swap if the cream colour didn’t match the white dress. I also purchased a necklace of black beads, but decided against that as well when I was doing the shoot, it would be too messy with the black details on the dress. Last thing I purchased for Nora’s costume was a bow headband, this is something I definitely wanted to get because I feel like that would make her seem more innocent.
The character of Torvald only needed to be dressed well, so he would seem like a professional person, but still laid back. I thought a white shirt and suspenders would be good for this. My model had all of this so I did not purchase anything for that character. He wasn’t going to be a big part of the series anyways, so no props were needed for him either.
