Location Scouting
I needed a bedroom for my shoot, and my initial thought was to borrow someone’s bedroom, but I soon found out that that wouldn’t be ideal, at least not for the final outcome. I started looking for actual houses in the area which could have a bedroom that would look like it was from the 1800s. I looked at Peckover House and Garden in Wisbech, but seeing that the house is owned by the National Trust and that one would usually have to pay for a tour there I decided to continue looking. I couldn’t find any pictures of any bedrooms either, so I would rather look for a bit longer.
Instead of contacting a private owned house I decided to look for bed and breakfasts instead. I used Bed and Breakfast Searcher for this, here I found multiple good locations in Lincoln. On this page I was able to look at photos of their bedrooms as well, seeing that they were all hotels or hostels, which was good, this made it a lot easier to find the best room. I looked at Washingborough Hall, Creston Villa Guest House and Bail House, and decided that Bail House would be the best location because they had authentic four-poster beds.
After making Bail House my first choice I continued to look into the house, I found more photos and opinions on TripAdvisor and after making a decision about which room I would like to shoot in I found their phone number and called the reception. I wrote down what I wanted to initially say to sound more professional, but the lady that picked up was so lovely that I quickly didn’t need it. I called on Tuesday the 19th of January and I was allowed to come up to have a look at their rooms on Thursday the 21st, and seeing that the room I wanted was free I decided to do the shoot on the 22nd of January. Here are some photos from the other rooms they had to offer.
